Conor Niland won his second ATP Tour Challenger Final this year with an outstanding performance against up and coming Polish star Jerzy Jancowicz in Salzburg, Austria on Sunday (21st). In a finely balanced match where the opening sets were shared in tiebreakers, Conor got his nose in front with a break to go 5-3 up in the third set and then served out convincingly to close out the 2 1/4 hour battle. This more than reversed a 3 set loss Conor suffered to Janowicz in a semi-final at St. Remy, France in September.
Limerick Lawn and Irish tennis fans had the unusual opportunity of viewing the match by live online broadcast through the tournament website and viewers had to be impressed with the outstanding quality and consistency of Conor's performance. Added to his Israel Open title in May, 2010 has been a year of significant achievement for Conor and this latest win moves him to a career high world singles ranking (131) and within touching distance of the top 100. He is seeded 2 in the Dunlop World Challenger event in Japan this week.
Limerick Lawn congratulates Conor on his great win.
