New singles ladders have been posted on the noticeboard (Nov.1, 2010)
LADDER RULES, 2010/11
Scoring
Matches will consist of two short sets (first to win 6 games per set). Maximum points available per match is 12. Scores should be recorded on fixture sheet on noticeboard.
Participation/running totals
Players may opt in or out of the ladder for a particular month by notification on the sign-up sheet. Cumulative scores will be recorded after each month and two discards will be permitted (i.e. your two lowest monthly totals) so missing a month will not affect your cumulative score.
Fixtures
Players should make reasonable requests for matches and, should a participant refuse two reasonable requests for a fixture, the fixture will be awarded 12-0 to the challenging player. The Tennis Committee will then decide on the allocation of points for the penalised player’s other matches within the group so as to ensure a fair outcome for all players in the group.
Promotion/relegation
- Ordinarily, one player will be promoted and one demoted within each group after each series of matches. However, to facilitate new entrants or withdrawals, this may vary. In the case of the top group, two will be demoted every second month in order to provide variation for these players given that there’s no promotion out of this group.
- Group placings will be decided as follows:
1. Total points scored 2. Head-to-head record of equal finishers 3. Difference between games won/lost. 4. Coin toss.
It is hoped to continue the ladders for as long as sufficient numbers of members wish to participate.
