Founded in 1877, Limerick Lawn Tennis Club is the oldest club in Ireland and Britain.

Second only to Wimbledon, the South of Ireland Men’s Singles championship is the second oldest title in Britain and Ireland.

The South of Ireland was first with a Ladies Singles championship, pre-dating Wimbledon to put Limerick in a premier position on the tennis map as the oldest ladies event in Britain and Ireland.

Occupying the original grounds where it was founded in 1877, Limerick Lawn Tennis Club has provided facilities for international sporting events other than Tennis.

A Rugby International in which Ireland played Wales in 1898 was played on the Limerick Lawn Tennis Club grounds.

The club was chosen as the venue for the Davis Cup match between Ireland and Senegal in 1986.

The club has also been the setting for inter-provincial hockey matches.

The Club has produced several International Tennis & Squash players.

The latest €1million investment in club facilities has brought a city sporting stronghold up to 21st century sports and leisure standards with 12 floodlit Tennis Courts, 3 championship Squash Courts, Gymnasium, Bar & Lounge.

Limerick Lawn Tennis Club Membership now stands at around 1000 and new members are warmly welcomed.
